How are diamonds made? - Educational videos for kids

Diamond is a mineral of carbon in its most concentrated form. It is composed solely of carbon, the chemical element for fundamental life.

The critical temperature-pressure balance required for carbon to form diamonds is not present worldwide.

Diamonds occur naturally in the earth’s mantle (150 kms below the surface) and require extremely high temperature and pressure.

Outer Zone – Diamond formed in the mantle are delivered to the earth’s surface by deep-source lava that pass through the stability zone.

Mantle (Diamond stability zone) – During volcanic eruptions, chunks of mantle containing embedded diamonds are brought to the surface.

Mantle chunk – These chunks are then mined for their precious cargo.

Hi
IAmTheIllestJK
this tells nothing about how a diamond is formed, just the conditions and location. how is carbon leached from surrounding ore? how does it coagulate into a diamond? how does quarts form in open air while diamonds are in rocks?
Mordecai
When you say "formed by heat and pressure" how exactly is it done? The heat comes from the temperature of the mantle, but what does it mean by pressure?

MocomiKids I'm planning to go back and visit to a village that I was born. I remember, as a little boy I used to see shining stones on surface every time it rains hard, the village I'm taking about had never experienced any volcanoes in past , so i are u saying i can't find diamonds in that village, if i don't have volcanoes in the past.  lol just confused.
Ephraim Pillar
And the lava sends it up well next time when they is a volcanic eruption I will remember to mine one of the chunks thanx mocomikids

Oh that's cool because the mantle has pressure and extremely high temperature is created diamonds and the volcano send

Waiting for volcano to explode :))

https://mocomi.com/ presents : How is Coal Formed?

Millions of years ago, a large number of plants and ferns grew on Earth.

These plants and ferns died in swamps, around riverbanks and got covered with soil and mud and slowly sank into the ground.

As the years passed, the Earth’s heat and the weight of the ground changed these dead plants into coal.

To extract coal, it needs to be dug out. Coal is usually found in layers, or seams underground.

Learn more about where do we get coal and how does it form with the help of this animated learning module for kids.
