California's largest utility company, Pacific Gas & Electric, filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday after facing mounting scrutiny for its role in November's Camp Fire.

While climate change is partially to blame for California's deadliest fire, most residents of Paradise, California almost immediately pointed the finger at the largest utility company in the state. The investigation into what caused the Camp Fire is still ongoing, but PG&E cited “actual and potential liabilities” in its decision to file for bankruptcy.

VICE News was in Paradise immediately after the Camp Fire to meet residents and learn how California can survive a future of deadlier fires.

“We know, as a matter of fire science, that high winds and dry weather are some of the most dangerous conditions,” said John Fiske, a lawyer representing residents, cities, and counties against PG&E in multiple wildfires, including the Camp Fire.

I live near oroville and it was very terrible, you can't see anything helicopters, planes, and fire engine's just going to the fire, and I was at school when I saw the smoke and the schools we closed for about 2-ish weeks due to the smoke and this year we went to paridice and saw all of the homes and businesses in paridice and just all gone.

Hey you POS's This is what you get when you clear cut over 2 million acres of wet lust redwood forests, and stripped all the timbers from the mountains sides! You create a drought! You people are scum of the earth!
Tammy Everest
Just throwing some theory around for question but .....Might be a good idea to consider activity of earthquakes and location on company. Discussion of drought....where are the underground lava rivers and are they located or have developed nearby as the drought issue may not be due to what going on above ground so much as below. Yellowstone chamber found in 2003 and another in 2015 which volcanoes do in relief to pressure..... & You have fault line unlocked since Mexico's 8.4 in Sept 2017........Cause and effect.

If you ever been there. You know the beautiful scenes we had. Oh I will treasure those years. Good luck to everyone who lost their homes to loved ones also that didn't loose anything God Bless You All. May the new year bring more positive perspectives but most of all enjoy yourself and stay strong.

I remember clinicals got cancelled that morning. I took a few things and went back to sac. The freeway 99south was stopped, dark, and fire and everyone going code 3. I have 3 classmates that lost their homes.... it was intense. I went back to Chico and donated as much as I could and tried to do my part. All I know Is when we came back to school at butte... it was rough seeing my classmates that lost all. The nursing staff, program, and classmates all held together and strong. We all supported each other.

Nigeria may sit atop one of the largest oil reserves in the world, but the majority of the Nigerian people have seen little benefit from the multibillion-dollar industry. The government and global energy companies have been exploiting the resource for years, bringing poverty, pollution, and violence to the Niger Delta. And now the local militias fighting for oil control have made conditions even worse.

Caught in the conflict are Nigerian citizens involved in the illegal oil market simply for survival. Oil theft is rampant, and the booming black market has transnational oil and gas consultants concerned about the effects on global oil markets. The government isn't too happy about it either.

“All the oil that is sold around here, the government calls illegally refined products,” local oil businessman Don Wizaro told VICE News. And when the Nigerian military raids illegal oil operations, they slash containers, releasing oil into waterways, contaminating what the main source of fishing, agriculture, and drinking water.

As the government continues its assault on illegal refineries and barges carrying stolen oil, local militias are retaliating. And one of the most notorious militias is the Niger Delta Avengers. They attack pipelines and infrastructure, significantly affecting both the environment and the economy.

VICE correspondent Gianna Toboni heads to the heart of Nigeria's oil production to witness firsthand the fight over the control of oil in the Niger Delta.
