The Great War
Easter 1916 was a turning point for Ireland and its situation between Home Rule and Irish soldiers serving on the fronts of Gallipoli and the Western Front. And even though the Easter Rising, the armed uprising against the British was unsuccessful, the spark for Irish nationalism ultimately led to the establishment of the Irish Republic.

The Irishmen who went to fight in the war in 1914 were seen as heros. The same ones who then came back in 1917-18 (post rising and the wave of nationalism) were now seen as traitors and are often still seen as traitors today by nationalists.

majority of “British” fighting the Irish in the war of independence, 1916 and so on were mainly Irishmen they knew the land well so it was an easy choice

the rebels weren't in liberty Hall, only the janitor was in the building, yet it was the first to be destroyed by the helga.

Jesus, Gallipoli just was terrible all the way around.
I knew about the New Zealanders, the Aussie, the British and the Indian troops but I hadn't heard of the Irish there. And at that, they were the first Irishmen deployed and lost a 1/3 of their Battlion in the first bit of fighting.
The moment he said Gallipoli I was like "ohhh nooo.... I'm sure this wont help the tension between them"

Have a question - possibly one that might fit your Out Of The Trenches series - prompted by your Weekly Update video 'Rebellion Week 199'.

I have an MA in 20th Century British-Irish Relations, and yet I was hitherto totally unaware of any 1918 Plot for insurrection in Ireland. Can you tell me more about this plan Sinn Fein (pronounced 'shin FAYNE', not 'FINE' Indy 😛 😉 )? I imagine that it was spearheaded by Cathal Brugha, but other than that I am clueless.

Storm of Steel (In Stahlgewittern) by Ernst Jünger is one of the most harrowing German accounts of World War 1. The author was an officer on the Western Front and fought with the assault troops and stormtroopers until summer 1918.
