I feel like killing myself and stabbing myself
Bianca A. - There's art to data science
Most forms of depression are a natural part of life. Just like hunger is a signal that we need to eat, depression is a signal that the non-physical, emotional part of us needs to be taken care of also. We need kindness, encouraging words, understanding. We need to feel that we matter. That's why finding someone who listens can work so well.
John Lawrence
I’ve come to the conclusion that the root of depression is actually exhaustion, physical and specially mental. Studying under Maharishi I learnt how important real rest is (and by implication how demanding daily life is) and I don’t think many of us understand how tiring life is particularly on the mental processes - right from day one - and because of not understanding this we simply don’t get enough rest. We aren’t actually capable of real rest, so the tiredness accumulates till we just give up.

The principle of Occam's Razor often applies: the simplest answer is usually the right one. Go get a copy of YOU CAN BE HAPPY NO MATTER WHAT by Richard Carlson. Simple. Quick. Cheap. Your emotions don't happen by themselves. They are always preceded by thoughts. Carlson teaches you how to gain control of that cause and effect. If you don't think, you won't sink.

Make sure you're getting adequate sleep. Chronic sleep debt is an under-treated cause of depression. Every mental health counselor should have their clients professionally checked. Sleep difficulty can arise from sleep apnea, silent heartburn, muscle cramps, chronic pain, too much exercise (which can raise stress hormones), too little exercise, going to bed too early, noise, too much night-time light, too much time spent on laptops or tablets before bed (which can cut off melatonin), and out-of-control trains of negative thinking. There are over 100 causes of insomnia and too many mental health counselors ignore this vital intervention.

The premise that somebody wants to kill themselves is incorrect. People with depression don't want to kill themselves, what they want is relief from the pain. The issue is its hard to want to live when all you experience in life is pain.
