From poor A/V quality to lackluster content selection, in-flight entertainment centers are full of compromises. Let's create our own using a Raspberry Pi 3 B+!

as a middle eastern i dont think this is a good idea

you could have downloaded a kodi image, and just used that.... load your movies on a usb drive, and, away you go.... I used to use kodi on all my tv's with raspberry pi's, works great, especially with "local" media. Also, raspberry pi cases can be had for under $20, sometimes less than $10... so..., the altoid tin case, is good, if you want the altoid tin case..., otherwise....
I have a raspberry pi display (7"), which is touch screen, so, when I run kodi on it, I don't need any periphrials.... run the charger into the battery pack, and the pack into the pi/display, and your golden....
In fact, I have been considering putting a raspberry pi in the semi, connected to the truck stereo, as a media player, audio for driving, video for sitting....

List of tech better than this:

1. Ipad or other tablets
2. Laptop
3. Nintendo Switch

There i watched it. are you happy now youtube?

If memory serves, doesn't the raspberry pi have a 3.5mm audio out, why not just plug it to the input on the QC35? On the idea itself, while I kinda like that of this bodged together Frankenstein from stuff that you already had, It's probably a better idea, from a money and experience POV, to spend the money on a mid tier tablet if starting from scratch. Just the price of display and pi could buy a Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) after a quick scroll on Amazon

Is it just me or..? Lithium batteries (especially 20,000mAh) are not allowed to be used on planes. They can be taken on, but NOT used. And I've never been on a plane with a proper power outlet, only USB. Hmm.

So the fact that you have a much larger screen isn't as obvious as the screen sticking out? :)

More on being noticed, didn't the cabin crew didn't ask you to remove the screen as it was attached to the entertainment console on the seat. How about your seatmate (assuming it wasn't someone you were with), didn't they get at least envious that you had that much real estate to watch your media with aside from having your preferred shows/movies on hand. Worst of all, call the attention of the cabin crew to ask how much to add to get the same screen. Hahaha

Personally I just use my tablet instead of the inflight entertainment. The selection on there, while relatively updated, I've mostly watched already or don't want to watch. Having the thing mounted on the inflight screen does interest me though. I'd have my hands free to eat or to just totally relax. Great video!

I have been waiting todo something like this my car.

Add a wireless controller and you can get some awesome retro gaming on too. Even most Playstation and N64 games run decently well on a Pi 3.

They let you take the battery?

I just need a better mounting solution for my cheap fire 10 tablet. It's good enough for a flight and way easier.

or...just use a tablet

Love the idea! I would add a Plex server to the Pi. It's an easy and free download. I would also install RetroPi and get a bluetooth game pad. With both of those downloads you wouldn't even need the mouse and probably not even need the keyboard. All while adding functionality.

Or... just use a laptop. 😏

Just the mount and an android tablet would be so much simpler

And this is how i subscribe to someone. Nice situation and nice resolution on the fly (pun intended).
